FAQ

What is panicPROTECTOR?

panicPROTECTOR is a free mindful breathing app. It helps you calm your nerves, reduce stress and find a state of wellbeing the moment you need it, through guided breathing exercises that adapt to how you are actually breathing in that instant.

How is it different from other breathing apps?

panicPROTECTOR gives you two ways to practise mindful breathing. On one hand, a free mode that uses your smartphone's sensors to measure your actual breathing and gently guides you toward a slow diaphragmatic pattern. On the other, a catalogue of guided exercises designed for specific goals: sleep, focus, settling nerves before a demanding moment, or simply easing the stress of an ordinary day. You choose what fits the situation.

Why are breathing exercises important?

Breathing is the only physiological system that runs automatically and that we can also control voluntarily. Slowing down the exhale activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for bringing the body back to a state of calm. It is one of the most extensively studied regulatory mechanisms in human physiology.

Why does panicPROTECTOR need your active participation?

Your active participation during targeted mental exercises will help distract negative thoughts and relieve the stress that occurs during an anxiety attack.

Does panicPROTECTOR replace professional care?

No. panicPROTECTOR is a wellbeing tool designed for everyday life: managing work stress, calming nerves before public speaking, taking a moment to pause. If you experience persistent or intense emotional distress, please consult a qualified health professional.

Why panicPROTECTOR doesn't collect any data?

We have opted for absolute confidentiality. We do not want to collect any personal data from the user, unless the user explicitly wishes to do so.

What technology does the app use?

In its free mode, panicPROTECTOR uses your smartphone's sensors to detect your breathing through the screen and adapts the exercise to how you are actually breathing in that moment. In the guided-exercise mode, the breathing patterns are designed for specific goals. Designed by a PhD in biomedical engineering with scientific supervision from a psychiatrist and neurologist, the app implements breathing techniques grounded in the available evidence on autonomic nervous system regulation.
